Fleeting life….

Life is so truly unpredictable,

One moment you’re planning things,

Engulfed in life’s hustle and bustle,

The next, you’re flying upto heaven with angel wings.

It’s true, we come alone and go alone.

Yet we totally forget this stark truth,

And chase money, luxury and the throne,

When all we need is for the boat of life to sail smooth.

The wealth we earn isn’t ours to take,

We go empty handed when we leave,

All that matters are the good deeds we do, the friends we make,

And all the bonds, connections and relationships we weave.

What really counts is all the hearts we touched,

The wrongdoers we forgave, the ones we selflessly helped,

The people we loved, the ones with whom we laughed,

The challenges we overcame and the gamut of emotions we felt.

So remember this my friend,

‘A good life means acquiring riches’ is a complete fallacy,

Coz ultimately, at the very end,

The love we give and the memories we create and leave behind, is our true legacy. πŸ’–πŸ’–

This poem is in fond memory of my uncle who passed away a few days back. Losing him was definitely tragic, but more than that, it was completely unexpected and caught us all by surprise. And such events really compel one to take a step back and think hard. And realise how truly unpredictable life is. One moment you’re here and the next moment You’re gone. The huge turnout at his funeral was a testament to the man he was and the love people had for him. And it made me realise that a well lived life is truly all about love, kindness and empathy. What do you think? Do share your thoughts. Much love to all of you. πŸ’—πŸ’—

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. Your poem and words are a beautiful tribute to your uncle and I agree with every single one of them. Life IS fleeting and it’s up to us to enjoy it, to love unconditionally and to live our best life to our highest soul level. I’m sure your uncle would be proud and smiling at you. Sending you much love β€οΈπŸ™

  2. πŸ’œ Firstly, Commiserations and Condolences to ALL YOUR!!! Family and Friends; secondly, maybe His Body is Interred but His Essence (Soul), Consciousness (Observer) and Memories (Mind) Remain…of course it’s NOT!!! Quite The Same and Grief Does NEED!!! to Run its Course, ‘On Death and Dying’ ~ Elizabeth KΓΌbler-Ross; yet He is Still Here Watching from Beyond The Veil and He Would Have YOU!!! ALL Celebrate His Life rather than Grieve His Bodily Death and thirdly, this obviously goes without saying, regularly visit His Grave

  3. I am so sorry to hear that… I had the exact same thought when my grandma passed years back. Life’s if enough unpredictable, and we should live every day as it is the last. I read this awesome book called, don’t Sprint the marathon. When we try to Sprint life’s marathon, we miss seeing all the real beauty, love, affection, and the joy for giving.
I am so happy that you wrote this piece, it really made me reflect on life!

  4. Thank you for commenting on my JanBeek post. That gave me a chance to find yours! I am so sorry about the unexpected departure of your uncle. What a wonderful tribute you wrote for him! Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with you: “… a well lived life is truly all about love, kindness and empathy.” If those 3 qualities were true of everyone, what a much better world we would have, huh?

    1. Oh if that were to happen, the world would indeed be so much better and harmonious…we can only ensure that we have these 3 qualities and live life using all 3 abundantly…thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. So glad to have connected πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸ’•

  5. I join other commenters in sending condolences for this sudden loss. Your excellent poem could be the theme song for 2021. there have been so many (often sad) surprises in so many people’s lives in recent times. A longtime family friend (who had become a member of our extended family) died last month, my step-father this spring, another long-time personal friend this summer β€” and two longtime friends suddenly find themselves in the hospital being treated for cancer (one in their bladder, the other in their brain). I agree with your wise thoughts and hope that a renewed practice of love, kindness and empathy will help us to see and understand and make changes that will help slow down climate change β€” which is bringing more and more disaster/loss/hardship into the lives of more and more beings here on planet earth. For some of us this will mean consuming a lot less than we have been brainwashed into thinking is our right… Let’s see if we can add unselfishness to our list of virtues! Deep breath in. Deep breath out.

    1. You’re so completely right….life is hard always but the last 2 years have been worse than anticipated. Too many lives lost, too much grief to process. Too much fear, too much panic, too much sadness. All we can do is just give our best, not just to each other but to the environment too and hopefully things will get better. My heartfelt condolences to you too for losing so many near and dear ones. All I can say is that This too shall pass. πŸ’—πŸ’—

  7. Oh no. I’m so sorry for your loss. I loved your post. It hit the spot. I’m struggling with my marriage because I am very unhappy. Sometimes I think maybe I’m just a negative discontent person, but every time I tell someone about my issues with my husband, they advise me to divorce. The problem is I have a 6-year-old son so it complicates things, and I’m not financially independent so I can’t raise my son and handle the expenses. I don’t have a job and my parents aren’t well off. I could move back in with my parents but my single sisters who still live with my parents can’t stand kids, and 2 of my single brothers are coming to stay for a while at my parents so there won’t be space for me and my son, plus my brothers can’t stand kids either. That’s besides all the drama that comes with a divorce. I keep telling myself maybe I should just suck it up and sacrifice for my son and to remain comfortable in my house. My husband isn’t a bad person. He is a good father and okay husband. But he has communication issues, and he clams up or lashes out when he is stressed, which is most of the time. He doesn’t take me out, won’t let me work or drive even though I have a masters degree and a drivers licence and he won’t let me use my personal savings but won’t buy me the things I want. Your poem made me feel like maybe I should try to be content with my marriage?

    1. Hey my dear, am just overwhelmed to know that my poem resonated so much with you…but my heart goes out to you for your current predicament…it’s a tough spot to be in…I think the first thing you should do is fight for your financial independence. That’s so important, because once you have that, rest of the things will become much more easier, like you can afford your own place, not depend on your husband for money etc. Start that conversation. Assert yourself to get a job and earn your own money. I hope that sets the ball rolling to get your life back on track and give you happiness and peace. Big hug and much love to you. πŸ€—πŸ’ŸπŸ’ŸπŸ’ŸπŸ’ŸπŸ’Ÿ

  10. My condolences to you and your loved ones. Your poem is a lovely tribute and a healthy expression of grief. As a believer in Jesus Christ, your poem brought to mind similar sentiments recorded in the Bible–life is brief.

“My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass” (Psalm 102:11, ESV).

“Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow” (Psalm 144:4, ESV).

“What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (James 4:14, ESV).

Moses recognized the brevity of life and prayed a simple, yet beautiful prayer that we can too. “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12, ESV).

    Blessings dear one.

  11. so sorry for you & yours, dear. I’m not spiritual, but in a practical way we do live on within each other, our thoughts affecting our intentions, our actions rippling out far beyond what we expect… wishing you the best ahead ❀
