Would you rather live in ignorance,
Or would you instead a take a chance,
To face your biggest fears,
That could totally break you and shatter your near and dears?
Would you wait and wait longer,
Or would you face reality and come out stronger?
Would you just ignore your imminent troubles?
Or rather come out of your pretend-to-be-happy bubble,
And face the reality that awaits,
Just ready to barge in and desecrate
Everything that you hold dear,
And make all the little joys disappear.
The truth is seldom pleasant,
But the fear is omnipresent.
So i wonder out loud, is it better to continue to live in denial,
Or to muster the courage and face whatever ‘reality monster’ awaits and fight for your survival?

Have you ever felt like this? Like you’re so scared of the outcome that you prefer to live in denial rather than face the music?…it could be a breakup or a visit to the doctor or a thesis submission or any other situation that needs to be addressed and dealt with, but there’s always the possibility that things won’t go your way and will have significant consequences that might adversely affect the course of your future. So, instead of just getting done with it, we just sit on it, too afraid of what the outcome might be. On the surface, everything is normal, everything is mundane, but underneath the veneer of normalcy, there lurks a hidden fear, that just eats you up little by little. Have you ever been in such a predicament? I know I have. And it’s not a happy state to be in. Would love to know your thoughts and how you handled it..Much love to all of you fighting such secret battles ππ
This is so relatable!

ignorance is never bliss, at least not for me. If there is anything I am not confused about, I can’t sleep in the night. I ought to get my doubts cleared, facts straight.
Being ignorant is not bliss for the people, but for the government and the institutions. Dumb people won’t question actions, and petty things might make them ecstatic.
Awesome poem, loved it!

Nope, Ignorance is not a bliss for me! I just cannot accept the fact that someone is ignoring something and not questioning things. Even I myself, tend to question a lot and don’t ignore things!

That’s so great Anjali that you have the drive to question and face things as they come, rather than be ignorant…that’s not always easy to do…but if you’re the one who don’t procrastinate, that’s really admirable ππ»ππ

It’s always better to face the challenge than live in denial. Often we end up paying a heavy price for that.
A poem giving some food for thought G!

Life is going to cause pain every now and again anyway, why not have the knowledge alongside? Also if we ignore or unaware of things, do we not stunt our growth? Do we not deny ourselves the opportunity to grow stronger and wiser?

Yes I think we do, it’s always better to know things that can help us take informed decisions…ignorance doesn’t really help..bit sometimes it’s just a defence mechanism when we are too scared of the information that’s waiting to be shared with us π€·. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts here…π€β€οΈ

Knowledge is not just about information outside of ourselves, knowledge is also about seeing patterns in our own behaviour, knowing how we react to stuff and learning why. Thatβs the real knowledge, knowledge of self: self awareness. Sold awareness leads to better self reflection and is unavoidably on the path to true happiness.

I’m in such a situation now, with the economic crisis in Lebanon. I’m terrified of the future but trying to live day by day, focusing on my hobbies, avoiding the news as much as possible…

Sometimes it is better to live in ignorance. But eventuality is the truth has to dome out? why not make it a bit less unpleasant and confront it however it may be.

Yes you can only live in ignorance for so long. Ultimately you gotta face the truth and take a call how you want to react to it. Thank you for your comment. ππ

Man I agree with you π―. Even drifting might take a lot of effort for someone while being driven may be second nature for someone. Each of us have our own stories, our own struggles and our own journeys. But I guess we must keep dreaming and hoping.πβ€οΈ
